Misericordia Brownies Are a Sensation in the South
by Judy Wall
Every Christmas, I send a tin of Misericordia brownies to my brother and his family in Atlanta. I address it to one of his kids, my 24-year-old nephew, Price. Price LOVES them, and my card with the brownies always says, "Dear Price, Please distribute these as you see fit." He MIGHT share a few of them with the rest of the family every now and again, but it’s rare. It's become a family tradition/joke.
Price also came to Misericordia a few years ago. He visited his cousin Christy at DT and brought McDonald’s lunch to her room there. During his visit, Price caught the heart of Mis, of the people who care for Christy and her friends, and of the life they have. We look forward to his thank-you notes after Christmas each year. Maybe others will enjoy them, too. Here are a couple of the notes:

Dear Uncle Judy,
Thank you very much for the brownies. They were good while they lasted. I don’t think I told you why I love them so much. I remember going to Misericordia with Ba and you. I remember watching McDonalds food being blended because most people couldn’t eat the whole food. The brownies are a bittersweet moment for me. How blessed I am to have gotten the privilege to go see Misericordia and be with people that have a harder life than I do but are so precious and happy.
Thank you for the brownies and now I need Weight Watchers. Ha ha! Seriously, when they came, I loved them. So, so good. Love, Price

Dear Uncle Judy,
The time has come for a famous Price Clapp brownie thank you. I say every year I’m going to be generous and let family and friends partake in the world-famous Misericordia brownies, but it never happens. They are just too amazing.
Thank you so much. It’s one of my highlights of Christmas time. When I receive the brownies, it takes me back to the time I spent with you and Ba when we visited Misericordia, spending time with Christy and seeing the love of Jesus at that place. It’s truly a special place and makes me grateful that there are people in this world with hearts bigger than mine loving on Christy and her friends.
Thanks for thinking of me every year. I know it’s just some brownies but it’s a special memory of my heart. Thank you so, so much. Love and miss you.
From, Brownie Lover/Price
