Message from Father Jack MisBanner

Hello Friends. Hope you have had a great start to the new year!

As you may have heard, there was some news yesterday about the freeze to federal financial assistance programs, grants, etc. Please see the below from the Illinois Health Care Association (especially the third paragraph regarding Medicaid). The pause will have no impact on our current funding/programs, and we will continue to work with our associations/friends to monitor any potential future impact to Medicaid with respect to Misericordia and our residents.

Temporary Freeze of Federal Funds

The Office of Management & Budget (OMB) under the Trump Administration has issued a memo directing federal agencies to review their financial assistance programs for potential impacts of the President's executive orders. While this analysis is conducted, OMB temporarily paused affected federal financial assistance programs.

This morning it seemed to cause confusion as to what Federally funded programs would be included in this pause that was scheduled to happen late this afternoon. The memo clearly stated that Medicare and Social Security was not included but was vague as to whether or not it included Medicaid. In addition, Illinois was locked out of their Medicaid portal, as well as other states, which fueled the confusion.

OMB issued an additional memo that clearly stated that mandatory programs like Medicaid and SNAP will continue without pause. Providers should continue to operate and bill the department as usual. Over the next few days it will become clear what other smaller programs might be impacted.

IHCA will continue to closely monitor any developments that could affect long-term care providers.
