There is a new group starting with the Social Service interns called “Ladies in the Know”.
The interns developed the curriculum which will focus on topics such as internet safety, relationships/dating, self-esteem, social skills, fitness/healthy eating, bullying, and feelings/mental health. The hope is to continue using the curriculum with others after the initial group is done.
Misericordia’s Young Professional’s group will be coming to the Shannon Apartments on 10/26/16 to decorate pumpkins, play games, and socialize with the residents, just in time for Halloween!
The outreach program will be coming to the Shannon Apartments to Trick or Treat through the building on 10/29/16.
Sister Rosemary has approved some building upgrades for the Shannon Apartments which were built in 1991. A few apartments will be done at a time over the next few years. These upgrades will include:
o Changing tubs to large walk in showers with Corian walls
o Putting in new bathroom vanities and medicine cabinets where needed
o Installing new blinds
o Installing new cabinets and corian counter tops (with built in sinks!) in the kitchens
o New light fixtures for the dining rooms
o New carpeting in wing hallways
o New floor in the main dining room
o New Cabinetry and counter top at front lobby desk
For the last 8 weeks election education for the residents has taken place. Focusing on:
o Learning about voting, getting registered, and filling out a practice ballot
o Discovering who will be on the ballot for both local and national offices
o Discussion on major issues facing our city, state, and country.
o Getting informed about the candidates and how the values of the candidates can help decide their votes.
o Many of the residents have been watching the debates on TV.
Several apartments have started menu planning and grocery shopping for their weekly breakfasts. It will be expanded it to include more apartments over the coming months.
