Each summer Misericordia sponsors 2-4 students from the University of Notre Dame to participate in an 8 week Summer Service Learning Program. The students complete readings and reflections that guide them through their 8 week journey. They are full time volunteers/interns in different areas across campus that match their individual interests while living in community at the Driskill Home, or commuting from their own homes if they live nearby. Two of the students from last summer, Kathryn Moran and Sarah Hatfield, were so moved by their experience that they decided to start a club at Notre Dame to support Misericordia and educate students about individuals with developmental disabilities. Inspired by Sr. Rosemary’s words, the club is Life Worth Living Notre Dame (LWLND).

The purpose of LWLND is to fundraise and provide information and resources about disability awareness on the Notre Dame campus through the coordination of educational and relationship-building projects. LWLND will work toward its goals by coordinating a regular series of monthly meetings, creating a mentorship program between first year students and residents at Misericordia Heart of Mercy, and participating in the Candy Days fundraiser to support Misericordia.
