Since the meeting in May, the Village has been a busy place. Many residents spent the summer helping Bobby Davis and Sharon Metzger tend to the Amina Grace Garden. They planted wide variety of vegetables, watered all summer and are now harvesting and eating the fruits of their labors.

In July, the Village held its Village Barbeque. The residents had a wonderful afternoon filled with water balloons, sack races, music, dancing, games, food and fun. There were smiles all around!

Residents and Staff also held a trial run Car Wash. They washed campus vehicles, security cars and staff cars. Residents did such a good job working as a team, they are hoping to hold their first official car wash for families and friends soon.  Once I have confirmation on a date,  I’ll make sure we get it on the weekly MFA announcements.

In August, the Village had their annual Art Fair showcasing artwork by Village residents. It was a big hit with many residents and families in attendance.  Not only were residents happy to show their art work, they had fun getting their faces painted and enjoyed lots of great treats.

Village residents were excited to help make Family Fest a success again this year. They loved participating in all the activities and showing off what a cool campus they have here at Misericordia. The following Monday they skipped DT and work to help with all the cleanup.

Now that Fall is in the air, Village residents are excited to be cheering on local football teams. This past weekend they headed to Loyola Academy to cheer them on during their homecoming game. There was also a group who took a trip to cheer on the Fighting Illini at the University of Illinois. Residents are looking forward to attending more football games as the season goes on.

The residents are also getting prepared for Halloween! The Village will host their annual Haunted Village featuring a haunted house, trick or treating and a dance party. They are also looking forward to dressing up and attending the Halloween dance in the JMRC!

This week is DSP appreciation week. Residents are happy to be celebrating the awesome staff they have. Thanks also to all families who have shared kind words of appreciation for the staff that supports the Village.
