Government action on disabilities issues is shifting to Washington DC.  As you know, the House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act which would cap the federal share of Medicaid funding and have a very detrimental effect on individuals with disabilities across the nation.

CHICAGO, Feb. 6, 2017 – Together for Choice, a new coalition of service providers, family members and concerned citizens, today announced that it is launching a national initiative to push for solutions for an often overlooked population: individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who face a growing shortage of suitable housing and vocational opportunities.

A Chicago Tribune Watchdog Series On Illinois Governance Of Housing For Adults With Disabilities.

To the MFA & SIBS,
Today we received the following communication from Scott Mendel informing us that once again Misericordia families have had a positive influence on behalf of our family members. As Scott asserts below, this could not have happened without the ground swell of support shown by our members as they responded to Sr. Rosemary's call for written comments to be filed in opposition to the proposed regulation.

Thank you to Scott Mendel. His excellent legal counsel and continuing vigilance has guided us to exercise effective action.

Subject: Comments on Draft: Community-Based Health Care and Other Services for Personal Enrolled in Home and Community-Based Services Waiver

I am writing to share my concern regarding the draft “Community-Based Health Care and Other Services for Personal Enrolled in Home and Community-Based Services Waiver”.  For nearly 30 years I have been part of the struggle to improve the quality of health care for people with intellectual disabilities. My experience tells us that while the intent of the draft is well-meaning, in my opinion it is based on inadequate information and will have negative outcomes.

Misericordia employees work on a PC/Windows platform, so they are not able to open attachments from an iPad made with Pages, Keynote and Numbers.
