Misericordia's Horticultural Program
Did you know Misericordia has a horticultural program? You may have heard we have a greenhouse, but wait, there's so much more! Click here to watch a video and read below to see everything that's going on in our garden areas on campus.
- The Amina Grace program specializes in hydroponics farming in the greenhouse as well as seasonal farm-to-table gardening in the Amina Grace garden at the Village. Participants sow lettuce, herb, veggie and flower seeds in the hydroponic seed tables, which later get transplanted into hydroponic zip towers for food production or into greenhouse pots to grow for outside garden use. The produce is used in the Hearts and Flour Bakery, Care for Real food pantry, and residential homes.
- Greco Gardens provides participants with hands-on seasonal planting, pruning, watering, weeding, and basic maintenance of 8 outdoor gardens. They also start up about 15 gardens in the spring. The program also encourages physical activity and the ability to be flexible at work.
- The Seasons of Change program is designed to offer a nature-inspired curriculum for residents who enjoy combining art and gardening experiences. This program has been tailored to best support residents who are experiencing age-related changes within themselves.
- We actively work in 8 gardens on campus and in the community at Berger Park and Vedgewater Gardens during the growing season!
